The first phase of the much-delayed SeawoodsUran railway route has finally been completed.
The project had remained on paper for years. After regular follow-ups by Cidco with the railways, the work on the project finally began in June 2012.
Ten railway stations were proposed to be built on the route along with 15 tunnels, 78 small nullahs and four bridges. Of these, work on the biggest bridge on Ulwe creek has been completed.
Work on Kharkopar railway station has also been completed. Hence, the Railways is planning to start the train services upto Kharkopar by July 2017.
Commenting on this, a railway official said, “The project envisages 10 railway stations. Six stations will be built in the initial phase and the rest will be built in the second phase.”
He added, “While a new Seawoods railway station is being constructed, a new railway line is also being added to it.
The Railways has decided to start the first service upto Kharkopar by July 2017. We are hoping that the entire project will be completed by December 2018.
