Bird enthusiasts and nature lovers will be able to book their boat rides for Thane creek online in next Two weeks. The mangrove cell of the forest department is developing a website for booking the rides and it is likely to be ready in the next 10-12 days.
Boat rides on the creek started on February 3 and revelers from across Mumbai and Thane are booking their rides either via phone and or by visiting the mangrove cell center at Airoli.
Ever since it was started the service received an overwhelming response. All rides for the month of march have been already been booked while booking for April is going in full swing. Two types of boats are available as of now. The first is general boat, where 24 passengers can take a ride, for a booking amount of Rs 300 per person on weekdays and Rs 400 on weekends. The second is the premium boat, where a family or a group of seven people can book it for Rs 5000 on weekdays and 6000 on weekends.
The rides start from Airoli and take the passengers towards Vikhroli and Vashi. The Thane creek stretches around 1,7000 hectares from Airoli to Vashi. In 2016 the state government had declared a large part of the creek as a flamingo sanctuary. It is the state’s second marine sanctuary, the other one is at sindhudurg in Konkan region.
