To mark the international women’s Day, the Panvel Regional Traffic Office inaugurated the all-women auto-rickshaw stand, Aboli , at four places in Panvel and Kalmboli. While the RTO has designated three all-women rickshaw stands at Panvel, it has fixed one place at Kalamboli for ease and convenience of women drivers and commuters.
The all women auto rickshaw stand has generated positive buzz. Like the RTO expected there have been some more applications from women drivers to get permit to drive autos in Panvel City Municipal Corporation area.
The move will also benefit women commuters as they no longer have to go through any hassle with male drivers. While there are only 10 to 12 women drviers in the PCMC area, there are around 75 women drivers in the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation.
