More than a year after they were supposed to be launched , 10 Tejaswini buses will fianlly hit the city roads on Friday. The state , in its budget for 2016-17 has dedicated 300 Tejaswini buses for women commuters across six municipal corporations and had made a provision for Rs 50 crore for it.
NMMC received a grant of Rs 2.5 crore from the state governement for the 10 buses. It has contributed Rs 5 lakh for each of the 32 seater buses. Women commuters who have been waiting for months for the bus service to be launched are happy.
The NMMT will also launch mobile e ticketing service and multipurpose Navi Mumbai Smart Card under its integrated Intelligent Transport Management system on Friday. Under its state of the art system , NMMT has set up a centralised command and control centre at its headquarters in CBD belapur.
A total of 458 buses , depots at Turbhe , Asudgaon and Ghansoli along with 14 control centres have been connected through the centralised centre. The system will help centre monitor buses , driver and conductors everyday . This will improve bus timings. The prepaid mart card will enable passengers to pay a fixed amount in advance and travel on NMMT buses.
